My secret pet goat – I was a silly little girl

Goats love to eat tin cans, right?

Where does that pop culture idea come from that goats will eat anything, including tin cans? I’ve always had it in my head, probably got it from TV. So much so I fed a can to a goat when I was 7 or 8 because I thought that’s what they like to eat. I told my sister this story the other day.

I was joking around with my sister and she started making up a song, mentioning goats. I pop out with “Goats will eat cans!” She was very “what?”, so I explained I know for a fact goats eat cans because I fed one to a goat.

She was of course was confused (and had this look like “when did Gwe have time last week to go do that?”), so I told her about a field trip I had in 2nd or 3rd grade where we went to the petting zoo (I think at the MN zoo) and I was so excited. I knew there would be goats and goat love to eat tins cans, so I brought one along as a treat for them, because my visit was special

Yep, packed a can and just carried it around in my backpack till we go to the goats. Eveyone crowded around the fence and was feeding them grain for a vending machine., and I pull out my can. I think I fed it to a black and white one.

But wait! There’s more. I was caught by the attendant/zoo guide. I recalled he was very surprised, very “did you just feed them a can?”

I said “Yes. Goats love cans, I brought it as a treat!” with the surety you have as a kid, that if you know or believe something, it’s 100% true. He gentaly told yes, goat eat cans, but they’re not good for them to eat. It’s beeter if they just eat what the zoo gives them.

I was so crushed! Ah, childhood.^_^

Small Steps to Gettin’ Serious ’bout Blogging! (step 2)

I know, I know, most things that come in parts start at 1. But wouldn’t step 1 be deciding to do the blog (done!) or getting it up (done!)? Maybe I’m just being strange.

So, I’ve been doing some reading on ways to get more visibility and traffic here. I know 85% of that probably involves me actually posting more. But small steps! So I registered at Technorati, like 5 years behind everybody else.

Technorati Profile

I’m a nerd!!!

Pure Nerd56 % Nerd, 47% Geek, 34% Dork
For The Record:A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.

A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.

A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

You scored better than half in Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd.

The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the “dork.” No-longer. Being smart isn’t as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful.

Congratulations!

Librarians are cool!

So the new Rondo Branch library opened like 2 blocks away from me a. I love libraries; I’ve spent like 6 hours pulling books from the stacks and taking notes. I know my favorite sections by library of congress system, the NC’s, NE’s and NK’s. I would be that bank teller in that old Twlight Zone episode; Survive the Apochlopyse, gather books and food.
You’d think I’d be overjoyed one was now so close to me. But no, I put off even just going inside to check it for over a month.
I felt guilty. I ran into a problem where I returned a bunch of book, but the library’s records kept reporting them as checked out and they were fining me the costs of replacing the books (I think it was SOP for overdue books in Mpls).
