Librarians are cool!
So the new Rondo Branch library opened like 2 blocks away from me a. I love libraries; I’ve spent like 6 hours pulling books from the stacks and taking notes. I know my favorite sections by library of congress system, the NC’s, NE’s and NK’s. I would be that bank teller in that old Twlight Zone episode; Survive the Apochlopyse, gather books and food.
You’d think I’d be overjoyed one was now so close to me. But no, I put off even just going inside to check it for over a month.
I felt guilty. I ran into a problem where I returned a bunch of book, but the library’s records kept reporting them as checked out and they were fining me the costs of replacing the books (I think it was SOP for overdue books in Mpls). I had the name and number of someone to talk to, they were going to have to have someone phycally check the stacks and I’d get it all settled. But it happened either in the middle of midterms or finals and I had extra studios (I kept taking too many humanties) and I was doing my internship and I was all ‘I’ll deal with it later.’ I of ‘course didn’t. I totally forgot all about it till months later when I needed to check out some books. By then, they’d found the books and I had all these fines and all I had was my word against theirs. I remember paying like 60 or 70 bucks on my then $200 in fines (!!!) then stopped borrowing any books.
So I go over today, check on how much I owe and get a new card. And as I filled out the card form, I was mentioning this to the Librarian and guess what! She erased the $100 I still owed! Yay!
