Even/Odd: Finished the cover!

Yay, finished the cover! Had to go in, do some clean up, especially with the crayons. They were all vague in the painting and I had to give them shape in photoshop. And the AD didn’t like the original background color, so I changed it to this teal, because teal is this soothing color.

Even/Odd: cover sketches

So, late last week got the contract and manuscript from StoneArch. The book I got is about 2 best friends who are opposites and even and odd numbers, and I’m going to try to reflect the concept (or the concept of opposites) with the 2 kids.

So, the cover is due next week. My process was reading the description and then I did several roughs. I gave myself a goal of making at least 10. What I’ve found is that pressure of making so many, can push you in a new direction. instead of always staying in your comfort zone of doing what you know you can draw/paint well.  but cut it down to 2 that had the most promise. These are the 2 best, in tighter sketches:

More soon!

Landed my first children’s book!!

Kudos to me! I just got a project; illustrating a early reader for Stone Arch Books.

This is my first step on my way to being a famous children’s illustrator like Eric Carle, Steven Kellogg, and Mary Grane-Prea (some of my person favorites).

I will keep you all posted on my process as I go along.
